Shipping weekly sounds like a productivity flex. In practice, it's a constraint that forces every other good habit. Once you commit to it, the rest of the operating model has to bend to make it possible. Here's what we've learned across eight products.

#The heroics myth

Founders who ship weekly are often celebrated as machines who don't sleep. That story sells books but produces burned-out humans. The sustainable version is much more boring, narrow scope, repeatable rails, and a willingness to delete more code than you ship.

#Narrow scope, every time

A week is four working days plus context-switching tax. You cannot bake a four-week feature in that window, and any plan that tries to ends in either heroics or a missed week. Pick a single user-visible improvement and finish it.

  • One user-visible change per week, end to end
  • If it's not testable Friday, scope was wrong Monday, that's the lesson
  • Internal cleanup rides along with shipping work, never instead of it
  • Big features become a sequence of small ships, each independently valuable

#Shared rails do the heavy lifting

Every product inside Nexobe shares deployment, auth, billing, and eval infrastructure. The first product paid the cost of building these rails. The next seven inherit them. Reusable infrastructure is the difference between weekly cadence and quarterly cadence.

#Pruning is the secret weapon

Most teams underestimate how much they can delete. We do a quarterly pruning pass where every feature has to justify its existence. Anything below the line gets killed, the code goes, and we move faster on what remains.

Surface area is debt. The more features you carry, the more you pay every week in maintenance, support, and cognitive load. Pruning is how velocity stays constant as the product matures.

#The human side

A weekly cadence is sustainable only if the humans involved actually have weekends. We hard-stop on Friday afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are sacred. The discipline of stopping on time is the same discipline that gives you the focus to ship on time.
